Our loving father and grandfather Abel Garza Gomez Sr. went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 27, 2019.
Abel was born on September 18,1932 in Bishop, Texas. The fifth of seven children born to Florencio and Natividad Gomez. In 1952, Abel married Margarita Martinez, in Phoenix, AZ. In 1956, Abel and Margarita moved to McFarland, California with their two sons Abel Jr. and Ramiro. Abel and Margarita added two more sons Juan and Mario to complete their family.
Abel became an owner operator of A Gomez Trucking in the 1960's which led him to travelling several states including California, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Arizona until retiring in 1995. Gifted with a great entrepreneurial spirit, Abel, owned a clothing store, a restaurant, and was known to many as a used car salesman because in his spare time he often bought and sold used cars. Additionally, he was a founding member of El Buen Pastor Church in McFarland, CA. and served as Deacon for several years. We are all blessed to have wonderful memories, that will fill our hearts forever. We are all so proud of our father for raising us with love and a strong work ethic. He was adored by his family and admired by all who knew him. He also had a great sense of humor. We had lots of laughs. He will be deeply missed. Rest in God's hands our beloved father.
Abel was preceded in death by his siblings and parents, Natividad and Florencio Gomez, Juanita Gomez, Lydia Gomez, Severa Salinas, and Hilario Gomez. He is survived by his wife Margarita Gomez, sons Abel [Martha], Ramiro [Elizabeth], Juan [Juanita], and Mario [Lupe] Gomez, as well as eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
