Aileen Bertha Yaeck

February 7, 1926 — May 8, 2016



Aileen B. Yaeck was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada February 7, 1926. She had a happy childhood and spent summers on a family farm in St. Thomas. She loved animals, especially Dogs, and enjoyed swimming and the outdoors. She met her husband George when she was just 16. After graduation she entered nurses training at Salvation Army Grace Hospital while George served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. She graduated in 1947 and they married in 1948. Together they raised 2 children and moved the family from Canada to Bakersfield in 1958. Aileen started a job at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse and retired after 33 years of service. She worked as a diabetic educator, and helped many diabetics in Kern County going above and beyond the call of duty. She organized health fairs, and even volunteered in Guatemala assisting with surgery patients. She helped open the Memorial urgent care center, one of the first in Bakersfield. In 1984 she was awarded the prestigious Nurse of the Year award by Kern R.N. Society. She even continued to volunteer at Memorial after retiring.

Aileen was preceded in death by her Husband, George; Daughter, Susan; Grandson, Cory; Brother, Don Norman; and both her parents,Gordon and Vera Norman. She is survived by her Son, John; Daughter in law, Vicki; Grandson, Sam and his wife, Jacquelyn; Granddaughter, Mindy; Great Grandson, Cory Jr. and Great Granddaughter, Kamryn.

Aileen led a full and active life. She traveled the world with her Husband, and best of all loved being a Mom and Grandma, going to Hawaii, and her precious dogs. Much Thanks to Hoffman Hospice House, and The Hallmark assisted living for their loving care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Church (900 "H" St.) at 9:00 a.m. For additional information please contact Basham Funeral Care.
