Alan Wayne Grossweiler was born on April 29, 1944, the son of Robert and Evelyn Grossweiler. Born and raised in Bakersfield, Alan graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1962. In 1964, Alan married the love of his life, Sara (Sallie) O’Brien, and he also began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad where he would work for 46 years. Additionally, he served as the local chairman for the United Transportation Union Local 1581 for the majority of his time with the Santa Fe. A railroad man through and through, Alan was never more at home than on a train or talking about them.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Evelyn Grossweiler; his wife, Sallie Grossweiler; his son, William Grossweiler and his niece, Yvette Olvera. He is survived by his brother, Donald Grossweiler and his wife Carmen; his sister, Susan Estrella; his brother-in-law Michael O’Brien and his wife, Laurie as well as their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his son, Jeff Grossweiler and his wife Kristin; his daughter Chere Linde and her husband Keith; as well as his beloved twin granddaughters, who were born on his birthday, Sara and Siena Grossweiler. Most importantly, he is survived by his beloved yorkies, Fizzle and Bailey, who quite possibly were his favorite children.
Alan and his family wish to thank the staff at Rio Bravo Cancer Center, Memorial Hospital and Hoffman Hospice. We also would like to thank Arturo and Biola Martinez, Gloria and Mike Scales, Doug Miller, Jimmy Duncan, Phil Taylor, Perry Martin, R.C. Daniels, Jack Holden, and their families, as well as all the other Santa Fe family that supported Alan throughout his life and through his last days. Your love and care mean the world to us.
