Alfred "Gene" Armstrong, 81, of Bakersfield, CA, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on November 5th, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on November 24, 2018 at Kern City Civic Association Building,1003 Pebble Beach Drive, Bakersfield, CA.
Gene was born in Gainesville, Texas, on March 16, 1937. He was one of four sons to William and Marjorie Armstrong. In 1955, he was recruited by the football coach at Taft College to come to California. He pitched in $15 for gas and got a ride with a family member to Taft. It was in Taft where he met the love of his life, Roxanne (Aaron). They were married on August 24,1957 and were married for 44 years.
Gene was a self-employed contractor for over 60 years. Anywhere in town he went, he would share a story of a job he had completed. He was still working on home projects up until his sudden passing. At 80 years old, Gene decided he wanted to be a home inspector. Despite his feelings toward the internet and technology, he completed an online home inspector course and became certified. When he made up his mind to do something, there was no stopping him. Gene loved spending time with family including family reunions and watching his grandchildren play sports. His family remembers him as a hard worker, who genuinely loved to help others. He was selfless, generous, and had a gift of choosing the best greeting cards for every occasion.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Vicki Christian of Bakersfield; son, Craig Armstrong and his wife, Susan, of Santa Maria, CA; and son, Steve Armstrong and his wife, Michelle, of Hanover, MN. Gene is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family members, and close friends.
