Barbara Wray Lechtreck
September 3, 1929 - February 22, 2019
Barbara Wray Lechtreck was born September 3, 1929 in Sacramento California to parents Ralph and Arisa Wray. She went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2019 in Bakersfield California. During the 89+ years in between, she was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and so much more.
Barbara's younger years were spent moving around central California, as her father was a farm implement and automobile salesman. She finally settled in Bakersfield in 1948. In 1950, she met Bob Lechtreck - a fireman with Kern County Fire Department - and after knowing each other for only 6 weeks, they went to Las Vegas to get married. They lived in Wasco and Bakersfield where, throughout her career, she worked at a school library, the phone company, the water company, and finally at California Glass.
After her eventual retirement, Barbara took up the game of golf and became an avid player. She was on the Stockdale Country Club's women's golf team and played in tournaments at some of the most prestigious courses in California. At one point, she was a 14 handicap and had 2 hole-in-ones. She truly loved playing with her family and friends and played well in to her later years. Barbara also enjoyed playing bridge and was a regular in a couple of groups.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister Betty Wray Daniel. She is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, her daughter Deborah Lechtreck Miller, her son Bob Lechtreck, three granddaughters - who she doted on, and two great granddaughters. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and no sacrifice was too great for them.
A family only graveside service is planned at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, where she will be interned until joined by her husband - a World War II Navy veteran.
Barbara was a frequent supporter of the St Jude's Children's Hospitals, and her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made there.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
