Betty Jean Chagoya

Betty Jean Elkins Chagaya, 86, of Lamont California, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 23, 2017. Betty was born November 13, 1930, in Bakersfield CA, to Eugene and Willie Mae Durney. Betty was a 67 year member of the Lamont Women's Club where she was President 5 times. Also a proud member of the Lamont Chamber of Commerce, Eagles, Lions Club and the Coronado Baptist Church. Betty is preceded by her parents Willie Mae and Gene Durney, sister Lou Ann Thurston, first husband Ollie Elkins, and grandson Steven "Michael" Elkins. Betty is survived by her 2 children, Shelby Elkins (Pinky Signorelli) and Jim Elkins (Paula), 4 step children, Chris Chagoya, Brian Chagoya (Tracy), Kelly Sneed (Kevin), Penny Sanchez and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty will be deeply missed by all those who loved her and whose lives she has touched with her loving care.

A viewing will be held Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St). Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Basham Funeral Care. Graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park (9101 Kern Canyon Rd.)
