Betty Alice Johnson, 85, passed away on June 14, 2020 in Bakersfield, Ca. She was born on April 24, 1935 in Merced, Ca to Frank Sr. and Alice Silva.
Betty lived most of her life in Arvin. She went to grade school at Rock Pile, Sunset, General Shafter and graduated from Arvin High School in 1952. Education being of importance to her she attended several colleges where she received a Teaching Credential, a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree and a Reading Specialist credential. Her love for education and the Arvin area kept her working for the Arvin Union School district as a teacher her entire career that spanned over 35 years.
Betty married Edgar Johnson in 1954 in Arvin at Saint Thomas Church. They were happily married for 25 years until Ed's passing in 1980. Betty passed away on what would have been Edgar's birthday to once again be reunited with him.
Betty is survived by her daughter Jennifer Holbert and husband Ronnie, daughter Toni Joiner and husband Butch, son Dennis Johnson and wife Cyndi, brother Frank Silva Jr. and wife Norma, sister Pat Beard and husband Virgil, grandsons Monty Johnson and Nick Joiner and her best friend in the world Linda Gonzaga.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Johnson, parents Frank Sr. and Alice Silva and daughter Deborah Johnson.
Betty loved teaching but for the last 20 years she loved retirement even more. Working with her flowers, traveling with friends, and just enjoying doing what she wanted to do on her schedule. She especially enjoyed going to Saturday evening mass with Jennifer and Linda that always had to be followed with dinner at one of her favorite restaurants.
A rosary will be held at Christ the King Church at 6pm on Monday, June 22, 2020. A graveside service will be held at Arvin Cemetery at 10am on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.
