Betty Jo Shelburne

Betty Jo Shelburne, 87 years old, passed away on December 15th, 2017 at Park View Julian in Bakersfield California. She was born on June 21, 1930 in El Reno Oklahoma to Earl Allen and Letta Jane Auldridge. Betty grew up in Henryetta Oklahoma and graduated from Henryetta High School. She married her high school sweetheart, James Helms and relocated to Bakersfield in 1959. They had 5 daughters: Peggy, Jeannie, Debra, Joyce and Judy Kay. They were married for 25 years.

Betty later married Archie Leo Shelburne and were together for 25 years until his passing. Betty worked at Hazel's Dress Shop in Downtown Bakersfield, sold Tupperware, and eventually worked as a teachers aid for the Greenfield Union School District. Her primary occupation was as a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family dearly. She enjoyed bowling and was very active in her home congregation of Central Church of Christ.



Betty is survived by their children:

Peggy Sewell, Jeanne and Tony Nelson, Elizabeth Shelburne, James and Jeanette Shelburne, Kathy and Marty McCay, and Archie Shelburne Jr.

Lisa and Scott McCollough, Sara and Michael Hearn, Jeanne and Johnnie Roberts, Wendy and Lief Barge, Casey and Tony Beins, Timmy Littlefield, Marshal and Courtney Shelburne, Ramona and Nevin Barich, Sharon Elizabeth and Tahedah Nelson, Jenny Thoreson, and Joshua Shelburne.



Great Grandchildren:

Marissa, Tyler, Ryan McMurtrey, and Brinley McCollough, Mason, Averie, Maddox, and Maxwell Hearn, Collin, Ethan, Aidan, and Gavin Roberts, Kylie Williams, Niko and Jordan Jones, Brandon Williams, and Ryan Husel, Jack, Tahedah II, and Draven Nelson, Richard Willis, and Quinten Pascual, Noelle, and Minadora Fleek.

Betty was proceeded in death by her parents Earl Allen and Letta Jane Auldridge, her brothers Jack and Allen Auldridge, her husbands James Helms and Archie Shelburne, her daughters Judy Kay Helms, Betty Joyce Helms, Debra Karen Littlefield, and Sharon Shelburne. Her son in law Jimmy Sewell. Grandchildren Travis Lilly and Carrie Ann Littlefield and Mackenzie and Christian Jones.



The family will be greeting friends and relatives at a visitation at 10:00am at Basham Funeral Home in the chapel at 3312 Niles Street Bakersfield California 93306. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am.
