Brady Wilburn was born April 3, 1960 in Bakersfield, California, to his parents Henry T. andEdna M. Wilburn. As a child Brady accepted Christ and attended The St. Paul Church of God InChrist under the leadership of the late Rev. Nathaniel Duffey, Sr.Brady was considered a lifetime member and upon his return to Bakersfield in 2009, he servedagain there under his cousin, Dr. Nathaniel Duffey, Jr. As a child Brady sang in the Children'sChoir The "Sunshine Band" under the teaching and training of his mother Edna Wilburn. At theage of 13 he was promoted to the Youth Choir and sang for many years. Brady served as anUsher and a trusted brother of the church. He also worked with the churches TransportationDepartment. Over the years in various cities, Brady attended several other churches. He was adevoted and faithful servant of God wherever he served until his departure from this life onAugust 1, 2017.Brady was educated in the local schools. He attended Colonel Thomas Baker and McKinleyElementary Schools, Emerson Jr. High, Bakersfield (B.H.S.) High School and Bakersfield College.He later attended Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College in Moore, Oklahoma. Brady was a member ofseveral school Basketball teams. During this time Brady married his childhood friend and schoolmate, Lisa Dutton. The two began a good work with his aunt Bonnie Yates. With her aging andan illness they were given the ownership, administration and operation of several group homes.After several years their marriage relationship ended. To this union no children were born.Brady began his career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR)on June 26, 1989 as a Correctional Officer at Pelican Bay State Prison. On March 16, 1998, Bradytransferred to the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran asa Correctional Officer. Brady retired from the state service on October 1, 2006.Fondly remembering Brady as an exceptional father. He was a fun loving person his entire life.He was extremely intelligent and loved a good debate. He was well known for his quick wit andexpressive nature. Every one knew Just point him towards the food. He loved to make peoplelaugh more than anything, he loved cheering hearts wherever he went. Brady touched the livesof many young and old. His humorous, bright and sunny personality will be missed by manywho loved and admired him.Brady was preceded in death by his father Henry T. Wilburn and Mother Edna M. Wilburn.Preceded also by his God Mother Dora Nutt-McCastle. His memories will be held dearly by hisbrothers, John Telford Wilburn, Sr. and wife Lucille, Chod Darrin Wilburn and wife Annette alongwith all of their children.During Brady's time at the Correctional Facility he met his most dearest and closest friend,Alisha Arni, and to this union his treasured children were born. His memories will also becherished by his sons, Tyler Scott Wilburn, Isaiah Jordan Wilburn, David and their sister Alyssawho loved her, "Uncle Brady." Brady had many beloved cousins, several nieces and nephews, ahost of other relatives, acquaintances and good friends. The Department of CorrectionsCaptains, Officers and Co-workers of Brady extend their heartfelt condolences."His watch has ended."A Warrior and Soldier for Christ is done.
