Charles G. Hernandez

Charles G. Hernandez was born on August 17, 1947 in Bakersfield, California to parents, Amelia Garza and Antonio Hernandez. His biggest joy in life was his family. Charles loved spending his days spoiling his grandchildren. He also loved traveling, dancing and genuinely helping others. Charles served in the US Army from September 1968 to November 1969 during the Vietnam War. Upon being honorably discharged, Charles was awarded the Purple Heart. Charles passed peacefully at home while surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rachel B. Hernandez; daughter, Monica Hernandez; son, Charlie Hernandez Jr. and his wife Jennifer and special loved one Nicole Hernandez; grandchildren, Joshua Hernandez, Lauren Hernandez and Jacob Johnson. He is also survived by his mother, Amelia Garza; his brother, Bobby Hernandez, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Antonio Hernandez.

Charles will forever be in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St.) from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. with a Funeral Service beginning at 11:30 a.m. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery (30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd).
