Charlotte Spears was born on March 4, 1930, to Roy and Mary Hartshorn in Nevada City, California. When she was young, they followed the crops and later settled in Grass Valley, California. She attended local schools.
On July 18, 1948, Charlotte married James Oliver Spears. They made their home in Grass Valley, California, where James built their first family home. In 1957, they moved to Needles, California, where James built their second family home. James was a self-employed plumber and Charlotte was a loving wife and mother of five. Along with raising five children, she loved working in the garden, growing and canning vegetables and jellies and teaching in the nursery each Sunday at the First Baptist Church.
After 30 years of living in Needles, they moved to Escalante, Utah. After several years and surviving a bout with cancer, they moved back to California, settling in California City for a few years and then moving on to Bakersfield. James, her husband of 60 years, went home to be with the Lord in 2009. On June 17, 2021, Charlotte went home to be with the Lord, joining James in Heaven.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Lynda Anschutz, Jocelyn (David) Blankenship, Mary (Bruce) Stephens, Michal Vargas and Ethan Spears; nine grandchildren (Jennifer, Heather, Sarah, Megan, Samantha, Erin, Miranda, Arminda and Roger); seven great grandchildren (Jasmine, Adam, Kaylee, Zachary, Camden, Dalton and Koralynn) and a host of family and friends.
Charlotte was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
