Consuelo Longoria

January 27, 1943 — July 9, 2020

Maria Consuelo Longoria, known as Chelo age 77, was recovering from her second open-heart surgery at USC Keck Hospital. Over the course of a month, she underwent numerous medical procedures. Due to complications that arose after her open-heart surgery, she succumbed to heart failure. Our loving Mom and Grandma went to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday July 9, 2020. She was the eldest daughter of Sabas and Delfina (Ysasi) Garcia, and was born on January 27, 1943 in La Paloma, TX. She attended Brownsville School District, where she graduated from the 8th grade. On August 29, 1961 our mom married Ernesto Longoria, in which they had six sons: Arturo, Ernesto, Jesse, Danny, Joey, and Johnny. She loved her sons unconditionally. Later on in life, she met Joe Bernal who had two children Danny and Corinna Bernal. They spent over 20 years together, doing the best they could raising a family. In addition, she is survived by her 15 loving grandchildren and 27 precious great-grandchildren. Brothers, Facundo and Tomas; Sisters, Lupita and Juanita. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, Joe Bernal, brothers David and Sabas, and her sister Maria. Our beloved and kindhearted mother enjoyed trying new recipes, while sharing her comfort foods like: tortillas, tamales, caldos, biscuits, and so many more. She loved watching: Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, The Food Network, and novelas. Chelo, perfected sewing, crocheting, making needlepoint pieces, and decorating. Oh, and don't forget about her Dallas Cowboys, who she cheered for to win the Super Bowl each year. Whatever your memories are of her, whether it was as Mom, grandma, Chelo, Tia, sister, or friend, let us rejoice and find comfort in knowing she is smiling and dancing on streets made of gold with our Lord Jesus Christ. "Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath." Psalm 17:6 "Lord, I put my life in your hand. I trust in you, my God." Psalm 25:1-2 "The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside the quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever." Psalm 23: 1-6
