Donald Eugene Maniord

October 8, 1933 — March 12, 2017

Donald Eugene "Don" Maniord, 83, passed away on March 12, 2017, surrounded by family. Donald Eugene "Don" Maniord was born to late Willis O. Maniord and Mildred Ruby (Cosby) Maniord, farmhand /preacher and homemaker respectively in Bullard, TX, on October 8, 1933. Don would wake up late at night, listening to both his momma and dad praying. He said that his dad would often say, "God has protected and blessed our family." Don at the tender age of three, along with four adults and seven children, traveled from Texas to Arizona in a donkey-pulled wagon. During the day, his dad preached at prayer meetings three times daily. Don's deep and abiding love for God and the Apostolic Faith was evident throughout Don's childhood and carried on throughout his life. After serving in the United States Army as a medic/ambulance driver, in the Korean War (1951-1953), he met and married his soul mate, partner, and best friend, Alta Jean Cox, on February 16, 1957. They were married 60 years and were blessed with two beautiful children: Ronald Eugene Maniord and LaDonna Jean (Maniord) Branum. Don was always a hard worker and an excellent provider for his family. He worked for ARB Inc. as a General Construction Superintendent until his retirement in 1988. At home, Don loved to farm chickens and was a great cattleman! He showed Ron and Donna how to care for chickens, milk cows, and tend to the horses. Don modeled good Christian values through prayer, giving, and his walk with the Lord. Don had a great spirit and quick wit about him. Those who truly knew him, knew how much of a "good mechanic" and a "do it yourself" man Don really was! If it could not be fixed with baling wire, mentholate, or electrical tape, you needed to call a professional. Don was also more than willing to share his version of home remedies and medical cures for common family ailments. There was no job too big or too small that Don could not fix! Don is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Mildred Maniord; a brother-, Willis Julian; sister, Myra Jonelle and his daughter, LaDonna Jean Maniord (Branum.) Up until the time of Don's illness, both Don and Alta attended Apostolic Faith Lighthouse Church on Niles Street. Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alta Jean; son, Ron (Danette); his children, Kristina Hunt, Nikolas Maniord, Samantha Rodman, and Nadeen Maniord; LaDonna's children, Michael Branum and Melodie (Branum) Dietze, and special family friend and a former pastor's wife, Dianne Pulse, and nine great grandchildren, along with numerous relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Optimal Hospice: TJ, Cheri, and Delores, for their excellent care and love for Don and our family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16th 2017 at Apostolic Rock Church (2761 Mosasco Street Bakersfield, Ca 93312) from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 17th 2017 at Apostolic Rock Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park (9101 Kern Canyon Rd.) followed by a reception at Apostolic Rock Church.
