Doris June Parrott

August 13, 1929 - February 9, 2018

Doris June Parrott, 88, of Bakersfield, CA went to be with Jesus on February 9, 2018 after a long struggle with heart disease. Doris was born in Jerome county Idaho and moved to California as a child with her family. Doris graduated from Kern Union High School in 1947 and married the very handsome Vernie Parrott. They moved to Shafter California where Vernie owned Central Cold Storage. Doris and Vernie had 3 boys, Vernie Jr, Mark, and Dennis. They were devoted to raising upstanding young men and saw to it that all three boys achieved their Eagle Scout Awards. Doris enjoyed being a scout den mother, and was financial secretary at First Baptist Church in Shafter. Moving to Bakersfield for Vernie's work in the 1960's, Doris finished raising the boys and she decided to go back to school. As her youngest started college, so did Doris. She graduated from Cal State University with a Masters in English in 1981. She became a teacher and followed that with a school in her home named Real Park School where Doris and her niece, Cathy Curless, tutored many students over the years. Doris is survived by her sons Vernie Jr. (Joyce), Dennis (Dava), her grandchildren Elyce, Aimee, Laura, Karen, Debbie, David, her sister Joyce Bragg, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Edna Chandler, her husband Vernie, her brothers Gene and Ron Chandler, little sister Patricia May Chandler, her son Mark Parrott, and great grandson Emmett Parrott. Graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Hillcrest Cemetary. 9101 Kern Canyon Rd.
