"Eddie G from Tehachapi" was actually born in San Diego and raised in Lamont, CA. His parents David & Julia Gonzales, brothers Rudy Perez, David & Larry Gonzales precede him in death. His wife Mary Ellen, children Tamara (Hector Morataya) & Eddie Gonzales Jr., grandchildren Nicolas Gonzales and Amanda, Ashley, Alyssa, & Amara Morataya, brother John (Irene), 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends survive him.
Eddie graduated from Arvin High School in 1961. He worked in Los Angeles before serving in the US Army in Germany. After his service, he graduated from Bakersfield College, married, and flipped burgers at Andres. He began his 30 year career with the County of Kern starting at the health department and ending in general services. As a buyer, he was both popular and highly regarded across departments as well as with vendors and merchants. After retiring, he worked at Jim Burke Ford.
On July 15, he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with the love of his life Mary Ellen. They both enjoyed dancing and going to casinos. Eddie was also known for his great sense of humor which he shared even in his last days. Our memories will keep him alive in our hearts.
Viewing on Thursday, August 24, at Basham Mortuary on Niles Street at 6:30 pm. Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on August 25 at 9:00 am with burial at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 10:45 am sharp.
