Ella Faye Spicer

September 1, 1943 — June 28, 2024

Ella Faye Spicer, "Faye", 80, went on to her heavenly home on June 28, 2024 in Bakersfield, surrounded by loved ones. Faye was born September 1, 1943 in Seagraves, TX to Grover and Bessie (Baze) Morgan. She worked her first jobs in Seagraves as a teenager, first at Webb's Drugstore, then Patterson's Dry Cleaners and as a "Car Hop" at the Dixie Dog Drive-In. She graduated from Seagraves High School in 1962 and married her first husband, Augie Hernandez in 1963. She and Augie then moved to the place she would call home for the next 50 years-Bakersfield, CA. After coming to California, they went on to have two children, Sonja and Austin. Faye worked for Beardsley School District in the late 70's, then went on to work as a Fraud Investigator for Continental Telephone. These were just jobs, though. Since the age of 9, Faye knew her true calling was to be in full time Christian ministry. She was ordained as a minister in 1984 and in 1989, along with her husband founded Greater Bakersfield Ministries, serving the East Bakersfield community. She served faithfully as the heart of the church in all aspects, but she will be especially remembered for leading a dynamic Women's Ministry at GBM. After her retirement, Faye was lucky enough to find love again with her second husband, EB Spicer. Together, Faye and EB enjoyed spending time at the family's ranch in Glenville, growing vegetables in their garden, being parents to their beloved dogs, and most importantly, they enjoyed being together. They were married in 2023.

Faye squeezed every ounce of joy from life, even in sickness. She was known to many as a pastor and minister, and to some she was also a mother figure, especially in times of need. She loved being a wife and mother, sister, aunt to her nieces and nephews, pastor, and friend, but nothing compared to being Grandma to her beloved granddaughter Jillian Alexandra. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Bessie Morgan, former husband Augie Hernandez, sisters Mary Sellers, Betty Ramay, Virginia O'Dell, Daisy Woods, Doris Cook, and Florence Murphy; brothers Herschel McClenan, Curtis Morgan, and Forrest Morgan. She is survived by her husband EB Spicer, son Austin Hernandez, daughter Sonja Hernandez Bussell (James), granddaughter Jillian Bussell, sister Thelma Fletcher, stepdaughter Rhonda Darling (Les), stepson Keith Spicer (Amy), and their children Cody Darling, Clay Darling, Drew Spicer, Anden Spicer, and Sophie Spicer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
