Frieda (Jenny) Pearson
July 31, 1942 - July 21, 2017
Frieda (Jenny) Pearson died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, July 21, 2017 in Bakersfield, CA after an 8-year battle with cancer. She was 74 years old. Jenny was born on July 31, 1942 in Grants Pass, Oregon to Jack and Celestine Mayes. Her family moved to Bakersfield, CA soon after. She graduated from North High School in 1960, was married in 1963 and had two children, Brett and Beth.
After her divorce, she worked as a bank teller to provide for her children and eventually married Carl Dean Pearson (CDP). She worked as a bookkeeper for various companies, and eventually returned to school at Cal State Bakersfield, graduating with honors in 1992. Jenny went on to teach in the McFarland School District at Browning Road Elementary for 12 years, retiring in 2008. She loved to teach children to read and was a two-time Teacher of the Year.
Throughout her life, Jenny's faith and love for Jesus was apparent to everyone she met. She accepted Christ at an early age through the Potomac Mennonite Brethren Church. Jenny shared her story of knowing Christ with everyone she came into contact with, and eagerly shared her favorite devotional, the Daily Bread, with them. Carl will continue to deliver Daily Bread devotionals to Browning Road Elementary, like Jenny did after her retirement. For the majority of her life, Jenny attended Riverlakes Community Church (formerly Fruitvale Community Church), where she participated in bible studies, women's groups, prayer groups, and taught Sunday school to numerous children, including her grandkids.
Jenny Pearson is survived by her husband, Carl Pearson; her son, Brett Bonetti and wife Cindy (Brant/Caroline, Bree, Brooke Kotz/Jake, Brock); her daughter Beth, and husband Steve Kliewer (Zachary, Emily, Madeline, Natalie); and step-son David Pearson and wife Grace (Dawson). She is survived by her siblings: Larcy Hodges, Anne Pearson, Josie Maloney, "bestfriend" Marilyn Webster, and Tom Mayes, and sister-in-laws Mary and Anna Mayes. Her brothers, JT and Cecil Mayes, precede her in death.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Riverlakes Community Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to LiFT Ministries Bakersfield or Our Daily Bread Ministries. For additional information, please contact Basham Funeral Care at 873-8200.
