Garvie Vernon Jackson

Garvie Vernon Jackson born April 4th, 1932 to Pascal Hamilton his father & Theresa Jackson his mother in Hallsville, Texas. He attended school in Hallsville Texas before relocating to San Pedro, California. He graduated from Los Angeles city high school June 21, 1946. After high school Garvie was drafted into the Korean Conflict June 28, 1953. He received the: Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. After serving in the Korean conflict, he was transferred to the United State Army Reserve. Garvie continued to serve until Jan 31, 1961. Post Military, Garvie built a successful janitorial and landscaping business. He later became employed with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Garvie loved all sports especially the Lakers. The Cowboys, and the Dodgers. He loved to sing, singing with “A Few Good Men” the church choir, and various solos. He served as a deacon at Southside SDA for over 30 years. He served as a Sabbath School superintendent and taught Sabbath School classes as well. He loved the word of God and he loved the church. In 1989 Garvie met the love of his life Desiree Lanee Williams. They were married in February of 1991. Garvie is preceded in death by Theresa Coleman, his mother, Dra Shana Robinson, Daughter, Gil Johnson, Brother-in-Law, Brian Burris, Son-in-Law. Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memories are his wife of 31 years Desiree, their children Sonja Jackson her children Tamika Williams (Curtis) of Lyon Mississippi. Michelle Grear-Carter (Derrick) of Southern California. Brittnea Chappelle (Kevin) Visalia, California. La Shay Burris. San Bernadino, California. Tony Chappelle Visalia, California. Shawn Wilson her children Kelina Harp (Aaron) & Kevin Jones of Atlanta, Georgia.Dra Shawna’s children Jamin Arriola, Jada Smith, Bakersfield, California and Jamiyah (Zachary) Rice of Columbus, Ohio, Cicely Williams and children Aubree Thomas, Brianna Thomas, Cala Thomas, and Justin Thomas of Huntsville, Alabama. Stan Williams and son Langston, of Monterey, California. Kimberley Williams and children Alasia, Andrew, and Max’zyene Williams of Bakersfield, California. A host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, relatives and friends. A special thank you for Hoffman Hospice Home. Cousin ReRe for her love and support.
