It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Smith, a cherished husband, father, and devout Apostolic Christian. He departed this world on Thursday, December 19, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of faithfulness and unwavering devotion to his God, family and his church.
Gary was born on April 27, 1941, in Slatyton, MN to Richard and Margaret Smith. His life was a testament to his steadfast dedication to his faith. He was a devoted husband and father.
Gary's commitment to his faith was evident in all aspects of his life. He was a pillar of consistency within the Apostolic Christian community, lending a helping hand and offering words of wisdom. His unwavering faith was a source of inspiration to many who knew him.
As a husband of fifty-eight years, he was a loyal companion to his wife and enjoyed traveling abroad, many road trips, and game nights with family and friends. As a father, he was a consistent presence to his three daughters, providing for them in wisdom and love. He shared a close bond with his brother whom he enjoyed going on dirt bike adventures around the country and camping.
While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the life of a man who lived with integrity, faithfulness, and uncompromising convictions. Gary's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his immediate family, Gary was a proud grandfather to his two grandsons, Carson Ruiz, and Justin Ruiz. His legacy of faith and devotion will live on through them, as they carry forward the Apostolic journey he lived until the end.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard Smith, mother Margaret Smith, sister Judith Smith, and brother Darryl Smith. Other loved ones left to cherish his memory are his wife Freida (Johnson) Smith; daughters Michelle (Smith) Ruiz, Cheryl Smith, Kristi (Smith) Wheatley; and grandsons, Carson and Justin Ruiz.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at First Pentecostal Church of Bakersfield, CA followed by the graveside service on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Mortuary & Memorial Park in Costa Mesa, CA.
