Gene Marie Winter, age 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Bakersfield, California. Born September 25, 1943 in Evansville Wyoming, Gene Marie was adopted by Gene and Charles King and raised by her loving grandmother Elmeda King. As a young teenager she and her grandmother moved to Bakersfield where she attended North High School graduated class of 1960. On September 6, 1961 she married her lifelong partner of 57 years Jack Winter Jr. Two years later they had their first of four children. Gene was a dedicated mother and community member. She was involved in the PTA and Girl Scouts at Franklin Elementary school. She was a self employed mother who helped to provide for her family through her daycare business. As her kids grew older Gene closed her daycare business and for the next 20 years worked with special needs children as a teacher's aide for Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Gene enjoyed social activities including playing bunco and pinocle regularly. Gene was preceded in death by her grandsons Jacob Green and Grant Bowker and survived by husband Jack Winter, son Larry Winter, daughters Joy Winter-Green, Paulette Boggus, and Robin Bowker, grandchildren Nicholas Kraemer, Charlize Winter, Quinn Bowker, and Jack Bowker, great grand child Jayden Gray, brother Barry King, sisters Carolyn Barnes, Janet Strasshofer, and Deborah Childers and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday May 12, 2018 at Hillcrest Memorial Park located at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield, California. A reception will follow at the Park Stockdale Civic Clubhouse located at 205 Rio Bravo Drive, Bakersfield, California.
