George Thomas La Favor "Chicken George" May 22, 1942 - October 26, 2017
George La Favor was born May 22, 1942 in Checotah, Oklahoma and passed away on October 26, 2017 in Bakersfield, California surrounded by his family. George was preceded in death by his parents Noah and Clara (Sparks) La Favor, brothers Edward, Robert and Doyle La Favor, sisters Ada "Alameda" Jones, Betty Thomas, and Jewel Dean Samora. George is survived by his wife of 53 years Shilla La Favor, brother John La Favor, daughters Sandy McCuan (Scott), Jamie La Favor, son Allen La Favor, grandchildren Brittany Carranza (Salvador Jr.), Janaye Joyner (Matt), Ryan La Favor, Jaclin Rogowski (Jon), Jeffery McCuan Jr., and Hayden Gamino, great-grandchildren Parker and Holden Joyner, and Benjamin and Ethan Carranza, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. George grew up in Arvin, California and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Arvin Union School District as a School Bus Driver and Lead Carpenter. George was active in the Game Cock Association and best known to the community as "Chicken George". He was actively involved in the local city government, serving as an Arvin City Planner for over 15 years. George was a C.B. Radio hobbyist known under the C.B. handle of "Walking Horse". George loved to fish, hunt, give good advice, spend time with his family and friends, watch the garden grow and enjoy a good Southern meal. If you knew George you knew he was one of a kind; God truly broke the mold after he made him. He was fiercely protective of his family, and a loyal friend to many. George knew the Bible better than most and was able to quote it with perfection. He had a colorful personality and a kind heart under a rough exterior. George raised a lot of hell and never made any excuses for it. He made a huge impression on many and his loss has left a void that can never be filled. He did it his way until the very end. George was loved by many and will be missed. Visitation will be held on October 31, 2017 at Basham Funeral Home 3312 Niles Street in Bakersfield from 4pm-8pm. Funeral services will be held at the South Kern Cemetery near Arvin 15543 S. Vineland Rd. on November 1, 2017 at 11am. A gathering will be held following the service.
