Gilbert Puente Sr. was born in Bakersfield, CA on December 29, 1962 to Lydia Camarillo and Cornelio Puente. He was called home on November 2, 2018 at the age of 55.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his Tia Susana Puente Reyes, Tio Hector Menchaca and father Cornelio Puente. He is survived by his mother Lydia Camarillo, brothers James Puente, Pablo Camarillo Jr and Randy Camarillo, children Nicomi, Gilbert Jr (wife Rose), Leslie, Micheal (wife Mariza), and Melissa Puente, and girlfriend Sally Molina and family. Gilbert leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gilbert had a very special place in his heart for his cousin Gabriel Menchaca, Sister-in-law Diana Balderama and God daughter Varissa Rodriguez.
Gilbert was a man that left an unforgettable impression on each and every person that he met. He was the man many people turned to whether it was for help on how to fix something, personal guidance or just a laugh. He had a personality that made everyone just love him. His gifts from God were the ability to connect with people from all walks of life and he was a jack of all trades. He had such a tough and intimidating appearance but underneath it all, he was the most friendly and lovable person with a heart of gold. He lived by his own rules and did not hesitate to speak his mind and let everyone know exactly what he thought. For several years he battled many medical conditions. He fought such a good fight and overcame so many things. He was such a strong man. For many of us he was our solid foundation, our rock the man that would never falter. His passing was sudden and unexpected, but God needed him home. Not a day will go by that he will not be missed. We love you and will forever cherish each and every moment we got to have you in our lives.
Viewing will be held on Thursday November 15th from 5pm to 9pm at Basham (3312 Niles St, Bakersfield, CA). Rosary will be at 7pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday November 16th at 10:30am (final viewing from 10-10:30am) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (601 E. California Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93307).
