Gloria Aros Chavez was 81 years old when she was called home to be with our Lord on September 27, 2019. She came into this world on April 1, 1938 in Bakersfield California where she lived her beautiful entire life.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ralph Ante Chavez. Together they had 5 children. Deanna (Steve) Martinez, Lisa (Jeff) Quintana, Ralph B. Chavez, Steffani (Mark) Luque and Charles C. Chavez & deceased baby Chavez.
12 Grandchildren; Vanessa, Whitney and Jordan (Mayra) Aguirre, Veronika and Erika Martinez, Victoria and Michael Chavez, Alexis, Alyssa and Adam Chavez, Mackenzie and Sophia Luque.
2 Great Grandchildren; Kahlil and Amelie Aguirre. Close family friend, Shari Gonzalez and children Libby, Lexi and Alphie.
Gloria is also survived by her brother Rudy Aros, and sisters Socorro Aros Escalera and Irene (Don) Aros Echols and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Cruz and Teresa Aros, sibblings; Crusita Aros Najera, Frank Aros, Robert Aros.
During her career, Gloria held various administrative office jobs. Her longest career was 35 years of administrative service at Mercy Hospital. It was here that she developed a close friendship of women that go by the "Mercy Girls" who today after 20 years still gather for monthly dinners and bus trips to Tachi Palace Casino. Even if it wasn't a day of winnings they racked up wonderful memories of the time they spent together!
Working and raising 5 children was not an easy task but she wouldn't have had it any other way. Volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader or taking us to our individual sporting events, her and our dad were our biggest cheerleaders. Her most important role of her motherhood was to be sure all of her children attended Mass on Sundays, and to be sure her children all received their Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation.
Gloria and her beloved Ralph enjoyed family gatherings for every holiday and birthdays with all of their children and their families. There was no such thing as a quaint and quiet gathering when all 30 and plus showed up!! Spending time in Morro Bay was her absolute favorite getaway. They never met a stranger! They loved hanging out at the Otter Rock listening to live bands and dancing with the young adults until 1:00am!
Gloria passed away on the Feast day of St. Vincent De Paul, and like him her life of charity spoke volumes. After retiring Gloria volunteered her services at St. Francis Church in the ministries of the Golden Agers and an Adorer of Christ every Tuesday evenings for years. And if that wasn't enough, if any family member or friend needed any kind of help, babysitting, dog sitting, getting people to doctor's appointment, no was rarely in her vocabulary. She truly was a faithful servant of Christ!
Cancer robbed us of our mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend and beloved wife but it didn't take away the love we hold in our hearts for her and the most unforgettable memories she created for all who knew her!
