Guy Phillip Hoss passed away peacefully on August 15, 2018. Guy was born on May 21, 1932 in Johnson City, TN to Roy and Ida (Russell) Hoss, and was one of 10 children (James, Harry, Jewel, George, Bill, Raymond, Bob, Katy, and Charles). He grew up in nearby Jonesborough, TN until the age of 16 when he entered the United States Air Force in 1948. During his time in the service, he surrendered his heart to the Lord which was a pivotal point in shaping the future of his life.
After completion of his service, he spent some time in various cities, including Detroit, MI, in the auto industry. As his faith grew, he begin to feel a call into the ministry. Although he never entered college, he developed an incredible aptitude for the study of the Scriptures. He had a way of clearly communicating what he had learned from the Bible, and he begin traveling to various cities preaching and, at times, starting churches. This lead him to Bakersfield, CA where he met his wife Judith Lee Hughes.
They married November 1, 1958 in Las Vegas, NV, and never left each other's side until his passing.
In 1965, he started the Apostolic Church in Bakersfield and served as the Senior Pastor for almost 48 years. During this time, he impacted countless lives and played a pivotal role in the lives of those throughout the community. He was bi-vocational for the majority of his life as he served his church. For the majority of his work life, he worked in the area of sales as a Distribution Manager for Keenan Pipe & Supply and H&L Supply and in the latter years he was a School Bus Driver for the City of Bakersfield. He had a passion for people, and you could boil his hobby down to one thing-loving others.
Guy is survived by his wife Judith; 3 children, Phillip (Amelia) Hoss from Murrieta, CA; Ernest Hoss from Bakersfield, CA; & Debra (Cliff) Uptigrove from Bakersfield, CA; two daughters-in-law Rose Hoss & Vickie Hoss; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister Ella Kate Hoss.
