Harold Leroy Dye
1922-2018
Harold Leroy Dye was born February 9, 1922 in Bakersfield to parents Raymond Leroy Dye and Gertrude Mae (Barnett) Dye. Harold passed away peacefully on January 28, 2018 at the age of 95.
After graduating from Kern Union High School in 1940, Harold attended Air Corps training and in time flew a Curtis P36 aircraft during WWII. Harold worked for Southern Pacific Railway for several years. He then trained as an electrician, and in 1961 founded Dye Electric Company which he managed until his retirement in 2000.
In March of 1984, Harold married Margaret Vinson Stanton. After retiring, Harold and Margaret spent many hours and days at their cabin on Breckenridge Mountain, where they grew a beautiful garden. He served on the Board of Directors for the mountain association and loved hosting large BBQ's for the neighbors in the area.
Harold was a fun, charismatic, and inquisitive person who loved people. He loved to travel in the United States, loved photography, and enjoyed collecting different types of clocks.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Margaret Dye, daughters Sheryl L. Muir, Susan (John L.) Clerou, son John (Elena) Dye Bowen, nieces Linda (Bartenstein) Wong and Carol (Bartenstein) Smith; and grandchildren Jennifer Muir, Matthew Bowen and Leah Bowen.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara June (Dye) Bartenstein, his son Douglas Leroy Dye, and nephews Dwight and Roger Bartenstein.
Services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 beginning at 11:00 am at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles Street, Bakersfield, CA.
