Obituary for Harvey Olen Quinn

Harvey Olen Quinn, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and servant of God, passed away on November 13, 2024, at the age of 82. He was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his legacy of faith, family, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Harvey was born on December 23, 1941, in Paragould, Arkansas, to Arthur and Myrtle Quinn. He grew up in Maricopa, Arizona, where he excelled in sports, earning awards in baseball, football, basketball, and track and field. He attended Maricopa schools through the 8th grade, but at a young age, Harvey chose to enter the workforce, dedicating himself to the agricultural industry.

In November of 1959, Harvey married the love of his life, Glenda Faye Hooker, at the home of Glenda’s grandmother, Flora Hooker, on Hall Road. Their union was blessed with four children: Tammy Faye Quinn (born March 18, 1960), Beverly Ann Quinn (October 4, 1962), Christopher Olen Quinn (August 27, 1963), and Johnny Harvey Quinn (February 22, 1971). Harvey was a devoted father and later became a grandfather and great-grandfather, always with a heart full of love and guidance for his family.

Over the years, Harvey worked in various fields, including as a foreman in agriculture and a skilled auto mechanic with expertise in transmission, body, and engine repair. He often referred to himself as a "Jack of all trades, master of none," but those who knew him disagreed—Harvey was a master of many things, and above all, he was a master of his faith. At the age of 35, Harvey gave his life to Jesus Christ, beginning a lifelong journey as a messenger of God’s word.

Harvey’s ministry was the heart of his life. He was a licensed minister in the Church of God of Prophecy, where he served in various roles, including Usher, Deacon, Bishop, Sunday School Teacher, Co-Pastor, and Pastor. His service to the Lord was unwavering, and even in his final days, Harvey continued to share the message of hope, faith, and love that defined his ministry.

Harvey and Glenda were married for nearly 57 years, and their deep love for each other was evident throughout their lives together. Harvey’s family—both immediate and extended—was the center of his world, and he took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Quinn, currently residing at Mount Mesa Nursing Home; his children, Beverly Rodriguez (Nelson Rodriguez), Christopher Quinn, (Tammy Quinn) and Johnny Quinn (Tina McDade-Quinn); his grandchildren, Amanda Ash, Cherie Rodriguez (Gerardo Prado), Kaleb Quinn, Kasey Quinn, Michael Johnston, and his great-grandchildren, Lillyanna Tipton  and Leilani Prado, as well as Michael Johnston's (Step-son of Johnny Quinn, Son of Tina McDade-Quinn) family of seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Copeland, Junior Quinn, and Janetta Jones, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Myrtle Quinn, as well as his siblings, Sonny Quinn, Nancy Quinn, Dorothy Quinn, and Lucille Quinn. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Quinn, great-granddaughter, Penelope Prado and grandson Michael James Ash.

Harvey’s love for God, his family, and his community will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held in on Wednesday December 18th, 2024, at Basham Funeral Care 3312 Niles St, Bakersfield, CA 93306 from 9:00 – 11:00 am (Pacific time) where friends and family will gather to honor a man who lived with unwavering faith, a servant’s heart, and a spirit of kindness.
