Hoyte Eugene "Gene" Pickett was born to William and Iva Pickett in Okemah, Oklahoma on February 15, 1935 and passed away suddenly on July 31, 2018 at home in Bakersfield, California. Gene was married to Della Marie Toy Pickettfor the past 61 years. Geneserved in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Gene worked in the oil industry and was a small independent oil producer most of his life. He was well known and respected in the oil and gas industry. Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years Della Pickett, daughter Debra McDermott and husband Brian, daughter Tina Cross,son Keith Pickett and wife Jill, grandkids Jacob McDermott and wife Jordan, Jaclyn Shoffner and husband Brett, Tom Hoyte Pickett, and his great-grandkids Hunter McDermott and Carson Shoffner. He is also survived by his sister Wanda Bruner and husband Van, sister Sandra Horton and husband Jerry, brother-in-law Amos Toy, and sister-in-law Brenda Meyer. Gene was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. Services will be held Thursday,August 9, 2018 at 10:00amat Basham Funeral Chapel (3312 Niles St) and then at the Bakersfield National Cemetery (30338 Bear Mt Blvd) for a 12:30 Service.
