Jake Luttrell

November 8, 1922 — December 14, 2017

Jake Luttrell passed from this earth to Glory in the early morning hours Thursday, December 14, 2017. Jake was born in Denlow, Missouri, in his beloved Ozarks, to Jacob and Susie Luttrell, the youngest of their eight children. When Jake was just a toddler, the family pulled up stakes and moved to Amoret,Missouri. His father,a farming preacher, settled into preaching at Amoret Christian Church. A few years later, the family moved to the next town north, Amsterdam, and eight-year-old Jake drove a wagon carrying the family's goods up the highway right past the Gregory Home. There, 9 year old Doris Gregory saw the handsome boy and that is where our story began. Friendshipand young love blossomed until sometime in Jake's senior year when there was an argument. Fortunately, Jake got smart two weeks before graduation and asked Doris to accompany him as his date to his graduation. The two were married in 1941 in the Courthouse in the square at Butler, Mo. They promptly packed up their belongings, both of their mothers and Doris's babybrother Butch into the car (this was the stipulation for marrying her daughter and going to California per Grandma Ruby Gregory). They started in Los Angeles and shortly after moved to Bakersfield where several other Luttrell's had migrated. War broke out and Jake was sent to Europe where he learned the trade of welding and worked on gliders that helped change the course of history. After the war Jake and Doris opened Jake's Welding Shop in East Bakersfield where they made their livelihood and settled into churchat Eastside Christian Church and began a lifetimeof service helping to build Sierra Christian Service Camp. Their two sons, Ron and Phil, born 16 years apart to the day, were the light of their lives. Jake became known as the premier maker and installer of custom trailer hitches throughout California. Jake and Doris traveled twice a year for long stretches to their hometown of Amsterdam, Missouri spending time visiting family and friends. Fishing, Music and Hunting were huge parts of Jake's life. The Luttrell's traveled to churches and events throughout Missouri and California to sing. Fishing was anytime, anywhere. Hunting in Colorado and Wyoming was fun but the favorite was their special spot on Tejon Ranch. The family wishes to thank caregiver Paulette and Optimal Hospice, and special friend Sharon, for all the care and love these last months. Jake leaves a legacy of hard work and family and love for the Lord. Now reunited in Heaven with his beloved Doris and son Ron, he leaves to cherish his memory Phil and his wife Wanda, Granddaughter Lori and Grandson Aaron, Grandson Jake and Granddaughter Stephanie, Great Grandchildren Nicholas ,(Allison), Matthew (Abbey), Hannah (Zachary), Haylee, Joshua, Noelle, Jacob, Brooke-Lyn, Daniel, Eric, Ruby, Warren, and Great Great Grandchildren Monae, Aiden, Liam, Emberlyn, Boston, Leland and Baby Jones due June 2018.
