Aug. 1957 - Jan. 2019

Rick Whitney , age 61 went to be with The Lord on Sat. Jan. 5, 2019 in Bakersfield, California. He passed away quietly, surrounded

by his devoted wife, June, his beloved son, Landon and his precious daughter, Melissa

Rick was self-employed throughout his life, up until he was diagnosed with cancer. Prior to that, he had

enjoyed working outdoors the most, whether it was doing brickwork, selling firewood, or building storage sheds.

He often hired people who were down on their luck, and needed someone to help them.

One of his favorite hobbies was to ride his bike. He could travel 20 miles in one day.

He loved to go on road trips, and traveled as far as New York City and back with his family.

His last road trip was to San Francisco and on up to Oregon, where he and his wife, June

celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary,

The Oakland A's was his favorite team.

It meant a great deal to Rick that his son, Landon & wife, Veronica named their daughter after Rick's mom.

And, the fact that little Zola was born on his birthday made it even more special.

Rick was born in Blytheville, Arkansas in Aug. 1957. His family moved to California, when he was very young.

He grew up mostly in Fremont, where he attended Fremont Apostolic Church, pastored by Bro. H.K. Duke.

As a young man, he met & married his wife June in Turlock, CA. The two of them raised their family there,

and attended church at Full Gospel Tabernacle. Rick remained in contact with friends both from school days

and church his whole life.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents: Bill & Zola Whitney, and brothers: Billy Whitney and Roger Whitney

He is survived by his wife June Whitney, his son, Landon (Veronica) Whitney, grandchildren Zola & Clive Whitney, and daughter, Melissa Whitney

Other survivors include: his brother, Harold Whitney, along with children: Scott Whitney & family, Dana Hershman & family and Brad Whitney & family

brother, Bruce Whitney and his children: Tiffany Whitney & family, Jessica Whitney & family

sister, Shirley (Ron) McCall and their son, Joel & family

sister , Sue Smith and sons, Jeff & family, and Jerry & family

sister, Linda Whitney and children: Jackie & family, Caren & family. and Cheryl & family

brother, Mike Whitney and his children: Michael & family and Tara Whitney

Rick's brother Billy leaves behind a son, Darren & family and daughter, Adair & family

We would like to thank the following: Hoffman Hospice for their kindness, and dedication towards the care of Rick in his last days.To his sister's Linda & Sue, for all their love and attention.Special thanks go to his daughter, Melissa who stepped in when needed to be here for her dad and her mom.

There will be a memorial service for Rick on Sat. January 26, 2019 at 11:00 am.

The service will be held in the small chapel located at:

First Pentecostal Church

1418 W. Columbus St.

Bakersfield, CA 93301

There will not be a graveside service
