Jesse Edward Burton, 78, of Bakersfield, passed away unexpectedly on January 11th, 2022 while recovering from knee replacement surgery at San Joaquin Nursing and Rehab Center. Jesse was born the seventh child out of eleven of Herbert S. and Jessie E. Burton on August 12th, 1943 in the small farm town of Eakly, Oklahoma. The family moved to Bakersfield, CA from Oklahoma around 1948. His formative years were spent in the unincorporated area of Rosedale. After Jesse graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1961, he served as a radarman in the United States Navy for eight years during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969. After his return to Bakersfield from military service, in 1970 he met Juanita Lenore Cassiano. They married in Las Vegas, NV later that year. Jesse and Juanita went on to have 3 kids, Victoria Ivorine, Alexandra Lenore and Jesse Alan Burton. Jesse started his career as an installer for Western Electric. While working full-time and raising a family he also completed a Business degree in 1978 from the Bakersfield Adult School. He worked as an electrician for over 30 years in Kern and San Luis Obispo counties, both in the oil fields and for various telecommunications companies. He was mechanically inclined and could fix anything electronic with ease. He was passionate about fishing, camping, and gardening and always loved a good prank or funny story. In his retirement he wasn’t able to fish or camp as much as he’d have liked, but still enjoyed classic country music, old movies and rooting for the underdog team in sports (especially football and soccer). Jesse was predeceased by his parents, his ex-wife Juanita, and siblings Donald J. Burton, Thomas J. Burton, and Herbert D. Burton. He is survived by his children Victoria Burton of Lancaster, CA; Alexandra Watson of Camas, WA; and J. Alan Burton of Bakersfield, CA; his grandchildren; siblings June M. Roberts; Jewel I. Colleta; Arvin D. Burton; Lonnie R. Burton, Robert L. Burton, and Phillip T. Burton; and numerous extended family. Services will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery on Monday, January 31st, 2022 at 1:15pm. Flowers are welcome.
