In Loving Memory of Joan Jeanette McCormickFebruary 12, 1940 – November 21, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Jeanette McCormick, age 84, on November 21, 2024. Born on February 12, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the beloved daughter of Theodore and Marie Milbert.

Joan spent her formative years in Philadelphia, where she graduated high school and began her career as a telephone operator. In 1985, her entrepreneurial spirit and artistic talent led her to open Sweet Earth Pottery in Rockland, New York. She crafted exquisite handmade pottery, including earthenware, slate paintings, and custom portrait mugs, each reflecting her incredible creativity. Joan was also an accomplished quilter, earning numerous awards for her intricate and imaginative designs.

Joan’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son, John McCormick III of Stony Point, NY; two daughters, Linda McCormick and Carol Ann Nash, both of California; her sister, Marie Ventura of Bakersfield, CA; sister Elizabeth Arch of Las Vegas, NV; and brother William Milbert, also of Bakersfield. Joan was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren—Katie Nash, Samora McCormick, Casey McCormick, and Austin McCormick—and a devoted great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, all residing in New York.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Marie Milbert; her brother, Theodore Milbert Jr.; and her sister, Carol Thompson, all of Bakersfield, CA.

Joan’s life was a testament to creativity, resilience, and love. Her legacy lives on in her family, her artistry, and the countless lives she touched with her warmth and talent. She will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
