John Ramon Martinez

John Martinez November 19, 1948 - December 31, 2020

John Martinez was born on November 19, 1948 in Bakersfield, California and went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2020.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rachel Martinez, four sons and six daughters, thirty-eight grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

John served in the United States Army for two years in Vietnam. He enjoyed fishing, working in construction, watching football with his children, going to the beach, serving the community and had a passion for serving in the prisons. He was born again through our Lord Jesus Christ in 1989, served as an associate pastor and then years later became Pastor of Word of Life Worship Center in Bakersfield, California and served there for over twenty years.

Celebration of his life will be on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Word of Life Worship Center located at 404 Bernard Street. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be limited seating. Memorial service is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and will then open up for walk through viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Live stream viewing is available on Basham Funeral Care's Facebook page.
