Johnny Leon Nord

John Leon Nord, 97, passed away on July 27, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California. He was born on September 14, 1922 in Bakersfield to Peter and Delma Nord. John grew up in Bakersfield. He graduated from Bakersfield High School. After high school he worked for Lockheed Martin in Santa Monica, California. Eventually, he returned to Bakersfield where he worked for Kern County Parks and Recreation for over 25 years. John married Arlene in 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were happily married for 59 years. He enjoyed playing poker, gardening and spending time with his family. John is survived by his daughter, Toni Maddox of Bakersfield, California; his grandchildren, Kim, Sondra, Jeff, Brandi and Joshua; his great-grandchildren, Lane, Adam, Blake, Dylan, Riley, Jack, Emma, Wyatt, Ethan, Kevin, Paige and Saidi, and his great-great-grandchildren, Oliver and Blake. A graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery on Friday, August 7, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Behavioral Health and Recovery Services-Gateway Team at 1401 L Street, Bakersfield, California, 93301.
