It is with great sadness that the family of Jose Martin Longoria, known to his family as "Joey" age 49 died on August 15, 2020 at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield. Where he succumbed to his injuries from a hit and run pedestrian crash.
Joey Longoria was born in Bakersfield, CA on August 16, 1970. He was the 2nd to the youngest son of the late Ernesto and Consuelo Longoria. Whom his Mom recently passed away on July 9, 2020.
He is survived by brothers Arturo, Ernesto, Jesse, Danny, Johnny, stepsister Corina, and stepbrother Danny Bernal. Family of relatives from Ohio to Texas Florida to California of aunts, nieces, uncles, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ernesto and Consuelo; Stepdad Joe Bernal; Grandparents Arturo and Maxima Longoria from Texas; Grandparents Sabas and Delfina Garcia from Texas.
Joey grew up in the nearby farming/oil communities: Arvin, Mettler, Maricopa, and Taft. Joey graduated 8th grade at Lincoln Junior High School in Taft, CA. In his teen years, he enjoyed playing sports like baseball & basketball with cousins and friends. As he became a young man he worked as a gardener, landscaper, and forklift operator. He was very proud when he bought his first car. He loved to Bar-b-que, go camping and fishing. He especially loved to fish near the mouth of the Kern River Canyon. He would enjoy the sound of running water and was in a do not disturb me mode. He would say, "Don't tell anyone about this spot." Joey also liked to eat sour and salty treats like saladitos (salted dried plums) the spicy ones were his favorite. Stepdad Joe Bernal taught him a few notes on the guitar. He would show off playing what he learned, but most of all he loved his Mom's cooking and holiday desserts. Which we all did!
Joey gave his life to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Victory Outreach was one of the churches he gained a lot of support from his brothers in Christ. He gained knowledge about Gods mercy and grace. At one point in his life, Joey preached over a local Christian radio station where he shared his passionate testimony. In addition, he shared how he gave his life to Jesus Christ and the supernatural powers of Jesus Christ. He loved Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Redeemer of Souls.
But we know in Christ Joey is now made whole. We know our Heavenly Father and his parents were overjoyed to receive him in Heaven with open arms. Faith assures us, Joey and Mom were very happy to see each other in Heaven where there is no more pain, illness, suffering, loneliness, and sadness. Although, we are deeply saddened about this tragic death of our brother. It gives us great comfort in knowing he is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
