Joseph Michael Silvas

February 12, 1990-January 19, 2018

Joseph Michael Silvas came into this world on February 12, 1990 and made his way to heaven on January 19, 2018-three weeks shy of his 28th birthday. He was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA where he decided to grow his own family.

Joseph answered to many names: Joey, Bubba, Mijo Mijo, Jophes, Josue, Uncle Joey, Tio Joey, and his most favorite of all-Daddy. His pure heart of gold was one of God's greatest blessings for all who knew him. If you ever took the chance to earn his solid trust and friendship, you would remember how deeply he cared with all of his heart. Joey made himself hard to love, but to truly know him was to love him.

Despite Joey's wild teenage years, his parents never lost sight of their sweet boy who loved everything with all his heart. Unforgettable childhood memories were made at his Grandma Carole's house with his sister, close cousins and all the other children who came over. The time he spent traveling, camping and riding dirt bikes as a young child and into adulthood were some of the most incredible experiences of his life. Joey's longing to explore grew over the years. His eccentric spirit was the spark that encouraged his parents, grandparents, and wife to plan incredible trips which left his family with priceless memories.

He made great efforts to plan wonderful celebrations for his family and friends. Birthdays, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's-he was always willing to host a party because he loved to decorate and make everything from scratch. He would sing at the top of his lungs, whether he was letting loose at a concert, blasting his favorite songs in his truck, or jamming out to music at home. Joey was guaranteed to sing old R&B tracks by the end of ridiculous nights with his best friends.

You will never meet a more honest, brilliant, hilarious, extraordinary, compassionate and genuine soul with such a voracious appetite for happiness. Joey married his high school soulmate at the age of 19. There was no doubt that his stubbornness had met its match, but if you understand their love you would see how their unbreakable bond would make each other fall in love all over again. His passion to build a beautiful life for his own little family pushed him to earn a bachelor's degree while working full time. He was the hardest working man who also made his best effort to be his sons' biggest fan; he never missed a sports game, school event or band concert. Joey's greatest strength was his fearless love as a husband and father.

He is survived by his beloved sons, Bailey and Braxton; faithful wife Fatima; devoted mother and step-father, Becky and Ruben; endearing father and step-mother, Paul and Christina; sisters Jordyn and Teresa; grandparents Angie and Tom, Ruben and Donna, Melvin and Jan; aunts Delia, Lisa, Tandra, Amanda and Deidre; nephew Aidan; many close cousins, as well as numerous loving family members through marriage and strong friendships. He is preceded in death by his Uncles Jeff and Scott, Grandma Carole Blanton, Great Grandparents, Angel and Maria Maese, Cecil and Francis Hill.

The family humbly requests for all who knew Joey to please write a letter to his sons describing him and your best memories. Bailey and Braxton are too young to be without their father, and we appreciate any words about Joey to help keep his memory alive. We will have a box to collect letters at the viewing and burial services.
