Constantina Nicholet Mellas "Dena"
July 20, 1951 — January 31, 2022
Dena Mellas was taken by the angels on January 31, 2022 and joined her parents George and Thalia Mellas in heaven. Her family was by her side and were all able to say their goodbyes. Dena leaves behind her son George Anthony Cruz (Rose) and daughters Maria Villanueva (Val) and Juanita Varela (Chendo) along with many grandchildren, with some she helped raise.
Dena was born in Bakersfield on July 20, 1951. She graduated from Bakersfield High School and later attended Bakersfield College. Her first job was at Mother’s Bakery, the family business located on Baker Street. She went on to work at Andre’s on Niles St. and El Barrilto Restaurant. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her lakers play, especially on Christmas.
Dena was a free spirit and loved adventure. She was always willing to try something new and experience life. She was one tough cookie!
Visitation will be held at Basham Mortuary on March 3, 2022 followed by gravesite services at Union Cemetery on Friday, March 4, 2022
