As alifelong Bakersfield resident, Julian was raised in a family of eleven children and survived two bouts with tuberculosis at a young age. He served his country in WWII in the United States Army, where he met and married the love of his life Patricia Redmond at Camp Abbot in Bend, Oregon. Together they raised a family of four kids and built their house by handwhile Julian worked as a machinist for the Southern Pacific Railroad, a career spanning 44 years until his retirement in 1987. When Patricia died in 2010, they had been married for nearly 66 years.By example, Dad taught his family the important values of integrity, hard work, persistence, frugality,empathy, and generosity towards others.Dad's biggest success was raising afamily that reflects his values today.We will always begrateful to our parents for taking the family on many camping trips to theNational and State Parks, forests, and beaches where we learned about the power and beauty of nature. After the kids left home,Mom and Dad loved going to Las Vegas.He is survived by his by his brother Victor Montes and sister Ester Boozer as well as his three sons, Garrett, Randall and Mark; and numerous friends, nieces and nephews.
