Kattara Ou

Kattara Ou January 5, 1958 to January 4, 2022 Kattara Ou, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on January 4th, 2022. He was born on January 5th, 1958 in Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia to his father Chhoy Ou and mother Siyath Im. He was their second son of eight children. Kattara grew up in Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia. While living in Cambodia, Kattara served as a soldier in Phnom Penh following in his father’s footsteps. He later immigrated to Thailand. There he served as a police officer when living in a refugee camp. Kattara faced many obstacles while living in Cambodia. He faced each obstacle while always doing what was best for his family. Kattara met Savonn in a refugee camp in Kaodan, Thailand in 1979. In 1981, they were married in a refugee camp in Kamput, Thailand. They were happily married for 41 years. Together with their daughter, Savy, they immigrated to the United States in 1981. When they first came to the United States, they lived in Alabama. While living in Alabama, Kattara worked a variety of jobs to support his growing family. He worked as a welder and in the oyster and crab factories. His eldest sons, Ketsarom and Jhonny, were born during this time. Kattara and Savonn moved their family to Fresno, California where Kattara and Savonn were blessed with their children: Jamesarath, Arlene, Gary, and Julie. In 1993, Kattara moved with his family to Bakersfield, California. It was here that Kattara and Savonn gave birth to their last son, Richard. Kattara was extremely proud of his family and would often tell his family members what his children were up to. He enjoyed life by spending time with his family, eating his favorite foods, and spending time at the casino with his wife and younger sisters. He loved his grandchildren. They always brought a smile to his face. Kattara is survived by wife Savonn; his children and their spouses Savy Yath, Ketsarom Ou, Jhonny Ou, James and Amanda Ou, Arlene and Luan Ou, Gary Ou, Julie Ou and Wanner Gomez, and Richard Ou; his grandchildren Jayden Ou, Lillian Ou, Abigail Ou, Samuel Ou, Jeremiah Gomez, and Paul Ou with a new grandson on the way; his siblings Phala Ou, Dasundy Ou, Sidorn Ou, Khamsan Ou, and Darith Ou. Kattara was preceded in death by his parents, Chhoy Ou and Siyath Im, his brothers, Phamany Ou and Davuth Ou. A funeral service will be held at Basham-Hopson Funeral Care, 620 Oregon Street, Bakersfield, CA 93305 on Friday, January 14th, 2022 at 10 AM. A visitation will be held at the same location on Thursday, January 13th, 2022 from 5 PM to 9 PM. After his service, Kattara will be cremated. His ashes will be brought home for a final ceremony before he is placed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary on 9101 Kern Canyon Rd in Bakersfield on Monday, January 17th, 2022 at 2 PM. His tireless love and devotion to his family were evident in his final moments. He was loved very much!
