Kenneth Lee Berry

March 2, 1963 — February 2, 2019

Kenneth Lee Berry

Kenneth passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. after a lengthy battle against congestive heart failure.

He was born on March 2, 1963, to Edwina (Winnie) M. Berry and Everrett (EB) B. Berry in Bakersfield, CA, both of which have preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nadine Berry; his two sons, Brice Berry and Daniel Berry; his sisters and their husbands, Kathy Stanley (Keith) and Kay McGuire (Larry); nephews Jason Payne and Chris McGuire; niece Melissa Lynch; Great-Nephews Sean Crofford, Max McGuire and Kyrin Abella and Great- Niece Tegan McGuire.

Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard on January 21, 1982, and retired on October 14, 2014, at the rank of E7 (SFC). He served one tour in Iraq in 2004 making him an Iraqi Vet. He also spent time in Korea, helped in the L.A. riots, fought wildfires and helped with floods. Starting in April 1992, he worked at the National Guard Armory on "P" St. in Bakersfield, first as a mechanic and at the time he retired, he was the Shop Supervisor. He also worked at the Kern County Fairgrounds in the Maintenance Department from September 1999 until December 2017, when he was unable to work any longer due to his congestive heart failure. He was a Nascar fanatic, going to as many races as he could, he loved fishing, and he worked on top fuel and alcohol dragsters.

The family would like to thank the following for all their hard work and care of Kenneth: The ICU Unit at Bakersfield Adventist (San Joaquin) Hospital and the nurses that attended to him, his Cardiologist Dr. Nirav Desai, to Brooke Graham for his cardio rehab for over a year, and to Kerry O'Day of Mended Hearts. We would also like to thank Optimal Hospice for the care they provided during these past 8 months. A special shout out to Sheri and TJ who were his hospice nurses.

He fought a good, hard, brave battle; but, in the end, his body just gave out. He never gave up the fight. He will be missed by everyone he touched.

Services are scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2019, at Basham Funeral Home, 3312 Niles Street, Bakersfield, CA 93306 at 9:30 a.m., followed by internment at the National Cemetery in Arvin at 12:30 p.m.
