LaRhonda McCraw

March 3, 1933 to November 11. 2022

LaRhonda McCraw—wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend—passed away of natural causes on November 11, 2022 at age 89.

The fifth of seven children born to Teddy and Leila Starr, she entered the world on March 3rd 1933 in Oklahoma.  The family moved to Arvin, CA when she was nine years old.  Early on, she got the nickname, Twinkle.  It was said that being the first daughter born to the Starr family, her brothers ran house to house to announce the birth of their sister, calling her the twinkle of their eye.

She married George McCraw in 1947.  They were married 58 years and produced four children:  Ron, Sharon, George Jr. and Darla, plus 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her five brothers and her daughter, Sharon.

In her forties she contracted cancer, underwent major surgery and endured five years of weekly chemotherapy.  She was a warrior in that battle and suffered many accompanying health problems. She became a Christian in mid-life and counted her most recent involvement at the Columbus Street Baptist Church as very satisfying. In her weekly Sunday school class, she met many friends and enjoyed the time spent learning about Christ. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing the jokes from Reader’s Digest.

Her family is grateful that she is no longer suffering, but rather rejoicing in heaven. A grave-side service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in the Garden of Peace on Thursday, December 1st at 2:00 PM.
