Larry Joe Evans, passed away on January 26, 2022 in Bakersfield, California. He was born on October 26, 1945 in San Francisco, CA to Art and Leora Evans. Larry grew up in Bakersfield, CA. He graduated from South High School in Bakersfield in 1963. After high school, in 1966, he joined the United States Navy Reserve and served aboard the U.S.S. Constellation during the Vietnam War, until 1971. Larry spent most of his career in the petroleum industry as a truck driver, and later as a dispatcher. He retired from Jeffries Bros. in 2012. After retirement, he continued his passion for cycling, shooting, and rebuilding cars. He also enjoyed spending time with family, friends, his Boston Terrier Charlee, and his three grandchildren. Larry was liked by everyone he met. As an avid cyclist, he made lifelong friends that he enjoyed cycling and traveling with. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Larry is survived by his life partner, Kathy Mashburn; daughter Kay Marie Evans; daughter Melinda Churchwell (Jim); granddaughter Kailey Churchwell; and grandsons: Carson Churchwell and Aiden Evans-Sibert. He is also survived by many cousins, aunts, and close friends. Larry is preceded in death by his brother, Marlin Evans. A graveside service will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin CA, on February 18, 2022 at 10:45am. A Celebration of Life to follow at Coconut Joe’s Banquet Hall at 4000 Easton Drive, Bakersfield CA. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to a local animal shelter or rescue of your choice. Condolences may be left on the online guestbook.
