In Loving Memory
Linda Lou Cumbry was born on March 15, 1944 to Chummie Lee (Daniels) Cumbry. She was born in Calipatria, California, she later relocated to Kemp, Texas where she met Vernon Hodge. She was blessed to give birth to three handsome sons Vernon Jr., Anthony Sr., and Rodney Sr., and Two beautiful daughters Sherrie and Sonya. During her lifetime Linda had various occupations over the years. She raised five children while accepting others into her home and treated them as family as well and taught her children to do the same.
Linda affectionately called Nennay by those who knew her, was known for her straight - forward honest attitude with a sense of sarcasm, humor, and militance at times. She loved cooking big dinners, having her children, grand-children, other family members, and friends over daily. She loved playing cards, having card games that lasted for hours with guest. She embraced her neighbors and helped them by babysitting and in any way she could. She loved watching game shows, blurting out the answers ahead of time and cursing the contestant when they got the answer wrong, as if they could really hear her "You big dummy, I told you the answer! ". She was also known for being stern when it came to disciplining her kids and anyone else's kids and didn't care if you had a problem with it, if she couldn't discipline your kids she would talk about them so bad capping on them and cracking jokes about them so bad in front of their friends and company you would probably have preferred the whooping. She was someone you could go to if you needed to borrow money or a place to stay. She was quick to tell you about yourself with no offense, but she still would accept you and help you. Most of all she loved her children and would do anything for them. One of her favorite sayings was "I'm doing fine as wine"! She loved joking around.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother Chummie Lee (Daniels) Cumbry, her younger sister Gloria Cumbry, her three younger brothers Robert Cumbry Sr., Willie Cumbry, and Johnathan Cumbry, and her two grandsons Deondre Hodge and Rodney Hodge Jr, and her nephew Nelson Cumbry Jr.
Linda leaves to cherish her precious memory her dear friend James Westley Raymond ( who has always been a father to her children and grand-children ), her two daughters Sonya Hodge and Sherrie Hodge, her three sons Vernon Hodge Jr., Anthony Hodge Sr., Rodney Hodge Sr., her two younger sisters Ann ( Madden ) Cumbry, and Sheryl Ann Cumbry, and her youngest brother Nelson Cumbry Sr. ( a.k.a Pete ), a special cousin Darlene ( Walker ) Rivera, and many nephews, nieces, grand-children and other family members and friends. A special thanks to her younger sister Sheryl for putting up with her and taking care of her when she became unable to care for herself.
