Lolly Kay Bertao was born on 4-14-1943 in Needles California to Mary Ellen Williams and James Reid Williams. Her family moved to Bakersfield a few years later. After high school, Lolly was employed as a manicurist in the Bakersfield area for about 13 years. In October of 1979 she became employed as a public safety dispatcher for the California Highway Patrol - a job she loved until her retirement in 2002.
Lolly was married to Carl Marion Craig in 1961 in Neosho Missouri and divorced 4 1/2 years later. In 1995, she married Johnny Gallegher and divorced him in 1996. Shortly after her divorce, she met Jose "Joe" Martinez Bertao and married him. She moved to Hanford California to be more involved in his life. Although they divorced, she always claimed that he was the love of her life. Joe stayed involved in her life until the very end of her battle with cancer.
Lolly was preceded in death by her mother Mary and step-father Thomas Floyd Hunt, her father James, and brothers-in-law Dale Clifford Brower and John Irving.
Lolly leaves behind three sons James and wife Diana, Scott and wife Jody, and Adam and wife Jennifer, and a daughter Darcy. She leaves ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. And two stepsons Steven and Joe. She leaves her best friends Laverne Cox and Telie Spurlock. She leaves three sisters Sharon Irving, Mary Brower and Karen Haislip, and one brother Thomas Hunt Jr.
Lolly was very active. She ran, roller skated, danced and played volleyball. Lolly was very involved in country western line dancing at the Laton Jam Session. Her final wish was to have a hoe-down in Laton in a celebration of her life. There will be a hoe-down and celebration of Lolly's life on Sunday, November 6th at 1:30 pm at the Lions Club in Laton California.
Lolly's final wish was to be cremated and a tree planted in her name. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a cancer research of your choice.
