Margaret Lucille Schulz passed peacefully, surrounded by family, into the loving arms of Jesus February 12, 2021 at the age of 91. Margaret was a strong woman (and just a bit stubborn), a loving wife, and a wonderful mother of 9 children. She was born in Seattle on November 11,1929 and moved to Los Angeles as a teenager. At 19, she married her high school sweetheart, David Schulz. Margaret and David were married 52 years until his passing in 2001. Margaret worked hard her entire life and had many jobs. Not only did she work hard, she worked smart. While raising a large family she taught herself computer programming and would go on to have a successful career in the field. She helped start and manage the computer science program at Cal State Bakersfield and eventually became the Director of Computer Systems at Kern Schools Federal Credit Union. Margaret won many awards for her programming and computer skills and was especially proud of her award signed by Ronald Reagan. Later in life, at the age of 65 she retired from KSFCU. Yet, she continued to do billing and bookkeeping for Valley View Estates (Hart Flat) Water Co. until she was 90. Mom always made sure that dinner was on the table and that the family went on vacations. She loved camping and would often plan last-minute family camping trips. After retiring, she spent all her time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling in the fifth-wheel with grandkids across the country. She had a love of Christmas and always made sure that it was a special time for everyone. Margaret loved God and knew Jesus as her Savior. She enjoyed her Bible study group, had a great sense of humor, and always was in a great mood. She was a blessing to all those around her. Our mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend was immensely proud of her heritage and history of her family. Margaret is survived by 8 children: Tom (Cindy) Schulz, Ken Schulz, Mary (Pat) Santomen, David (Cindy) Schulz, Rita (Jay) Ginnow, Lisa Hummel, Greg Schulz, and Tami Foshee, and 63 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Schulz, son Robbie, and grandchildren Richard, Amy, and Jessica. The family would like to give a special thanks to Tami for taking such good care of mom for the last 20 years. A viewing then rosary will be held at Basham Funeral Home, 3312 Niles St. March 2 at 5pm and 6 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday, March 3,2021 at St. Francis Church, 900 H St. with burial to follow at Union Cemetery.
