Martin Andrew Morones

Martin Andrew Morones passed away peacefully on June 23rd in the arms of his loving wife surrounded by love and prayers after enduring 8 years of Alzheimer'sdisease.Martin was born in Paso Robles, California on May 14, 1943 to Refugio and Rafaela Morones. As a young boy the family relocated to Buttonwillow, California. Martin graduated from Shafter High School in 1962 where he made lifelong childhood friends. In 1966 he was drafted into the army and stationed in Germany. He discovered his passion as a vehicle mechanic and also received a National Defense Service Medal for expertise in Rifle. Upon his honorable discharge Martin was a mechanic for Tenneco Farming Company. In 1974 he started his career for the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad for 36 proud and dedicated years. He loved collecting antiques, he always had a story to share and he never met a stranger. He is preceded in death by his parents Refugio and Rafaela Morones; brother Arthur Morones; father in-law Joe Escalera and brother in-law Ronnie Escalera. Martin is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Morones; their children Irene Aguirre, Jimmy and Ericka Aguirre, Ralph Morones, Zane Morones and Brandon Morones; grandchildren Marissa Morones, Jacob Morones, Aiden Aguirre, Edy Aguirre and Aubree Aguirre; sisters Ruth Heath (Wendell), Rosemary and Bob Reyes and Jane and Martin Ferdinand; as well as uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. The Morones and Aguirre Family would like to thank, Sarah, Maria, Amando, Angela and Madi of Optimal Hospice for their dedicated care, compassion and friendship.
Services will be held on Friday, July 1st, at St. Joseph's Church. (1515 Baker St. Bakersfield, California) Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. followed by a Rosary prayer service at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ADAKC- Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County and/ or Optimal Hospice. Our beloved Martin, God saw the road was getting tough, and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
