Melody Ann Amos

August 16, 1961 — September 11, 2021

Melody-Ann Amos 8/16/1961-9/11/2021 Melody was born on August 16, 1961, the youngest daughter of Leslie and Lorrayne Cressler. Her soul was as light as the noon-day sun flooding into the little hospital room that day, in Lancaster, California. She had three older sisters—Cynthia, Robin, & Brenda—and a younger brother, Ron. At a young age, she discovered her love for animals and the value of hard work, mucking out horse stalls in exchange for riding time. Through high school and college, she was involved in 4H and FFA, studied agriculture, and fostered many skills in animal husbandry. She did barrel racing in rodeos, dabbled in sheep shearing, and raised swine. She had two Arabian horses—Ro-Rodi and Tankh, a goat named Heather, and a beloved Australian Shepherd named Blue for 17 years. She met her husband, Rodney Amos, at Fresno State University, and traded in her first loves—her horses—for a quiet life with the love of her life in the suburbs of Bakersfield. Melody & Rod were married for 35 blessed years. Melody's three children were her pride & joy—Lacee, Morgan, and Jake. Melody worked for over 30 years in the durable medical equipment field, doing everything from purchasing to office management. As much as she loved her job, she had planned on retiring in the next five years, to travel, visit her daughters in Arizona and Wyoming, and explore more creative pursuits. Melody lived her life with compassion—smiling and holding doors open for strangers, buying meals for homeless panhandlers, feeding the mangy squirrels in the field by her work, taking care of her aging mother, and of course, showering her family with endless love & delicious home cooking! When Melody was not working, she enjoyed crafting, camping trips with her family, and playing bunco once a month with some of her best friends. Melody recently lost her two Boston terriers—Brooster & Tippee. They were the subjects of much of her affection in recent years, and surely were waiting for her in heaven. Melody was taken from us, unexpectedly and far too soon, just weeks after turning 60. Alas, she was too good for this world! Melody is survived by her husband, Rod; her three children, Lacee, Morgan, and Jake; her mother, Lorrayne Jaennette; her siblings, Cynthia, Robin, Brenda, and Ron; and multiple nieces and nephews. Funeral ceremony will be held on September 30th at 10am, at Basham Funeral Home (3312 Niles Street). A graveside service will be held afterwards at Arvin Cemetery. Viewing will be available on September 29th from 5-8pm at Basham.
