Melvin E. Patterson

   It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Melvin Eugene Patterson (81), of Bakersfield, California. He passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023 surrounded by his wife and children. 

   Melvin was born on October 21, 1942 in Merkel, Texas and moved to Bakersfield, with his parents, when he was eight years old. After marrying his wife, Darlene, of 58 years, Melvin was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War.

   After serving his term, Melvin returned to Bakersfield and worked in the construction field for years, Melvin supported his family with pride and hard work. After retiring, keeping in touch with friends and family was something that kept him busy. He cared deeply for them both.

   Melvin was a loving family man and is survived by his wife, Darlene and his two sons, Shaun (Marvel) and Jerry (Denise). He is also survived by three grandsons, two granddaughters, and two great grandsons. Melvin was predeceased by his daughter, Darla.

   The Viewing will be held on Nov. 1st at 5:00 p.m. and the Funeral Service Nov. 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St. Bakersfield, Ca 93306). The Burial will be on Nov. 3rd at 10:00am at Hillcrest Memorial (9101 Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield Ca 93306)
