Michael was born in Oakland, California and moved with his family to Bakersfield in 1970. He attended Van Horn Elementary school, Thompson Jr. High, and graduated from West High School in 1982.
For 28 years he drove for Yellow Taxi Cab and acquired many "personals" who asked for him by name. He went out of his way to help those who needed assistance. He was a loyal, much loved friend.
Michael loved traveling to many states including Hawaii and especially enjoyed flying and all things airplane.
He died peacefully on October 14, 2017 after a long illness. He leaves his parents, Roger Simmons, Cynthia Simmons, stepfather Brendan O'neill, brother Matthew Simmons (Carolyn Simmons), aunt Susan Ralston, uncle Thomas Schofield (Jung A Schofield), nephew Jack Simmons, niece Madeline Simmons, cousins David Ralston and Elizabeth Schofield.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held at Basham Funeral Care on Friday, October 20, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
