Mildred D.Green

June 28, 1934 - December 28, 2016

Mildred D. Greene was born on June 28, 1934 in Bokchito, Oklahoma. Her parents were Clyde and Helen Vinson (nee: Holland). She was the third child, oldest sister, of eight children. Her early schooling was conducted in a one-room schoolhouse and her teacher was her paternal aunt Mrs. Minnie Thompson. At age twelve, the Vinson family relocated from Oklahoma to California, where they arrived in Weedpatch migrant camp on December 28, 1945, and spent their first night on the side of the road. Mildred attended both Vineland Elementary School and Sunset Grammar School, graduating from the eighth grade in 1948. They had four children, Jimmy Ray, Barbara Jean Ronnie Dean and Sharon Annette. After separating in 1956, Mildred later married Otis Greene and they had one son, Charles Anthony. Mildred and her children resided with her parents. Mildred loved little children and they loved her playing and giving out hugs. During her years in the Bakersfield and Arvin areas, Mildred was a domestic worker and a field labor crew manager. Her mother, Helen, often told her that she would make a good nurse. Mildred had an opportunity to relocate to Pomona, California in 1970, where she became a certified nurse's aide. She worked as a CNA in convalescent homes and rehabilitation centers for over 30 years, only retiring from a work-related injury. After retiring she relocated back to Bakersfield, California in 2003. She was determined to remain independent for as long as she was able to. She resided at Lowell Place Senior Center from 2004 until 2009. Only after suffering from an injury that required skilled nursing did she give to receiving help. She resided at Brookdale Senior Solutions Skilled Nursing unit from December 2009 until her death on December 28, 2016. Mildred enjoyed residing at Brookdale, until her passing on December 28, 2016, where she actively participated in the many activities like bingo, balloon volleyball, bible study, church services and especially the Salvation Army hymnal singing, and her daughter Sharon often came by to sing with her. It took her a little while to feel comfortable about going to outside events with her fellow residents, but she enjoyed going to Dewar's Ice Cream and shopping in stores, especially at the dollar stores. Mildred was an amazing expert at crocheting. In the past she made flower table settings for her parents' 50th anniversary and her niece, Pamela's, wedding. She was loved by the whole staff at Brookdale Senior Solution s and all came by to express that love and respect while she was under Gentiva Hospice Care. The family wishes to thank all who called or came by, to Brookdale for always treating her with respect, kindness, thoughtfulness, and making her feel at home with her residential friends and Christian compassion from the staff and administration. A special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for helping Mildred and her extended family with understanding the transition from her earthly body to her spiritual home to be with Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jimmy, three brothers Clyde, Jr., Franklin, Jerry, and one sister Elta. She is survived by her children Barara Dar (Nomi), Ronnie, Sharon Wesson and Charles Green. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sister Leola Greene, brothers James Vinson (Lonzetta) and Sammy (Azmanella) Vinson, sisters-in-law Dorothy and Thelma Vinson. Many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
