Nancy Ellen Burnight

Nancy was born in Kirksville, Missouri on May 28, 1939, the daughter of Olin Barton Holmes and Lorine May Gottschall. She passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Bakersfield, CA on April 21, 2017, after a 3-year battle with liver cancer.As a young child, Nancy moved from Missouri to Los Angeles, where she graduated from Hamilton High School. After graduating, she married and moved to Simi Valley where she raised four children.Nancy was very involved with her church and participated in local clubs and charities. She spent most of her working life as an LVN at Simi Valley Adventist hospital.After retiring she moved to Bakersfield to be closer to two of her children and 5 grandchildren. In Bakersfield, she became active in the community, joining several clubs and becoming involved in charitable work.Nancy loved her family fiercely and found great joy in spending time with her 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her mother Lorine Albertson and step dad Al Albertson. She is survived by her four children Kim Brown (Roger), DeWayne Burnight (Barbara), Russ Burnight and Marni Reed (Larry); along with 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers Randy and Gary Kirner, sister Janice Yost and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.Memorial services will be at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Rd. on Thursday, April 27th at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to one of Nancy's favorite charities Toys for Tots, Make-A-Wish Foundation , or the Ronald McDonald House.
